Matchday Picks: Soccer League — Privacy Policy

Introduction
Matchday Picks: Soccer League ("the App") is developed and operated by Area43 Labs. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
Matchday Picks is a friend prediction league app for the 2026 World Cup — predict match outcomes, compete with friends in private groups, and share beautifully designed matchday result cards.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Account Information
The App uses anonymous authentication — you do not need to provide an email address, phone number, password, or social-login credentials to use Matchday Picks. When you first open the App, we collect:
- Display name — a name you choose (1–20 characters), stored locally on your device and on our servers to identify you within your prediction groups
- Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated identifier created by our authentication provider (Supabase) to tie your predictions, group memberships, and scores to your session across app launches; this ID is not linked to your real-world identity
Prediction and Group Data
To provide the App's core functionality, we store:
- Match predictions you submit (predicted scores and result picks)
- Your group memberships, including your display name, avatar color, and role (owner or member) within each group
- Your accumulated prediction points and scoring history
Usage and Analytics Data
We automatically collect anonymized usage data to understand how users interact with the App, including:
- Features and screens accessed
- Session duration and frequency
- In-app actions and events (e.g., predictions submitted, groups joined)
- App version and OS version
Device Information
We collect basic device information for App functionality and crash diagnosis:
- Device type and model
- Operating system version
- App version
- Crash logs and error traces (for diagnosing bugs)
Language and Timezone Preferences
We store your selected app language and timezone preference locally on your device (via AsyncStorage) to ensure the App displays in your preferred language and shows match kickoff times correctly. If you set a favorite team for schedule filtering, that preference is also stored locally on your device.
Push Notification Tokens
If you grant permission for push notifications, we collect your device's push notification token to deliver match alerts and prediction reminders. This permission is always requested after your first prediction — never during initial onboarding.
How We Use Your Information
We use collected data to:
- Provide and maintain the App's core functionality (predictions, group leaderboards, match schedule)
- Display your display name and avatar to other members of groups you have joined
- Calculate and update prediction scores and group leaderboards in real time
- Send push notifications about match results and group activity, if you have enabled them
- Improve the App based on usage patterns and crash reports
- Serve in-app advertisements (banner ads on relevant screens; see Third-Party Services)
- Process in-app purchases for premium features, if you choose to purchase them
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Data Sharing
Within Your Groups
Your display name and avatar color are visible to other members of any prediction group you join. Your prediction picks and scores are visible to group members on the group leaderboard. You control which groups you join.
Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with third-party services only as necessary to operate the App (see Third-Party Services below). These providers process data on our behalf under data processing agreements and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Your App data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase (our backend and authentication provider). We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures — including TLS encryption in transit and access controls at rest — to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
Preferences such as your selected language, timezone, and favorite team are stored locally on your device and are cleared if you uninstall the App.
Despite our safeguards, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
- Account and prediction data is retained for as long as your anonymous session persists on your device.
- If you uninstall the App, your local session is cleared and a new anonymous identity is created on reinstall. Your prior predictions and group memberships linked to the previous session are no longer accessible to you but may be retained on our servers for up to 90 days before automatic deletion.
- To request earlier deletion of your data, contact us at privacy@area43labs.com. We will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request.
- Anonymized, aggregated analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely.

The App uses the following third-party services that may collect data subject to their own privacy policies:

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:

- Deletion: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Opt out of analytics or personalized advertising where applicable

GDPR (EU/EEA users): If you are located in the EU or EEA, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
CCPA (California users): If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information.
Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@area43labs.com and we will delete the information promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
